WASHINGTON - A Senate committee's version of the 2005 budget for federal housing and related agencies includes over $13 million for Utah projects, including a new Shakespearean theater in Cedar City, a new community center in Wayne County, renovating Brigham City's Academy building and restoring the circa-1867 Pioneer Hall in West Jordan.
The funding was requested by Sen. Bob Bennett, R-Utah, who sits on the Senate Appropriations Committee that determines the spending blueprints for federal agencies.
The committee report must be reconciled with a House version before being put to a final vote in both chambers.
Besides $900,000 toward a new Elizabethan theater for the Utah Shakespearean Festival and $1 million for the Brigham City renovation, other big-ticket Utah items in the committee bill include $1 million for the Space Dynamics Lab at Utah State University, $1 million for USU's Digital Image Archive and Processing Center and $1 million for drinking water and storm water system improvements in Sandy.
