Political parties have put forward their candidates to run for Salt Lake County auditor in this November's election.

Thursday was the deadline for parties to nominate candidates to take over the remaining two years of former Auditor Craig Sorensen's term.

Republican Sean Thomas, whom the County Council chose as interim auditor to serve until January, will be the GOP nominee. Thomas, 32, of Salt Lake City, earned an accounting degree from Arizona State University and served as vice president and general manager - and for a short time as chief executive officer - of Phoenix-based James Stewart Co.

Democrats' nominee is Peter Stevens, 68, who served as vice president and general auditor of Northwest Energy and a top official at several Fortune 500 firms.

The Personal Choice Party has nominated 19-year-old Christopher E. Nizzardini, a "customer response agent" and a full-time college student.
