West Valley City police confirmed Tuesday that they investigated a number of tips concerning the whereabouts of Joshua Powell in the hours after his wife went missing in December, including a tip he went to a strip club.

However, "There was no apparent way to verify independently it was him," said Capt. Tom McLachlan.

McLachlan confirmed that several days after Susan Powell's disappearance Dec. 7 that an employee of Duces Wild told investigators Joshua Powell visited the South Salt Lake strip club. But McLachlan, without going into details, also said investigators followed up on "a number of tips" involving Joshua Powell's whereabouts in the days after his wife went missing.

Police tried to verify all information with two or more sources, McLachlan said. Though at least one person claimed Powell was at Duces Wild, investigators could not verify it was actually him.

Video cameras at the club were apparently not working during the time Powell was allegedly in the club, McLachlan said.

Joshua Powell has told police he took his two small children camping in the west desert the night his wife disappeared. Susan Powell has not been heard from in more than three months.
