Felony defendant had revolving door at Davis County Jail

Since November, Raymond Walker has been released or bailed out from Davis County Jail and then accused of a new felony four times, according to jail and court records.

The Standard-Examiner reports today that Walker's case is stirring some debate on when felony defendants released from jail before trial -- and then accused of a new crime -- should be granted bail again so soon.

Some prosecutors want a no-bail provision to kick in for such situations; judges differ on that idea.

In Walker's case, records show, he has been booked into jail eight times since August and released seven times. His original charges have not yet made it all the way through the court system, the Standard-Examiner notes.

The eighth time Walker was booked into jail appears to have stuck; he has been incarcerated since May 15, after 2nd District Court Judge David Connors denied bail.

In all, Walker faces eight felonies and 11 misdemeanors -- most related to domestic violence allegations spanning 10 cases in Farmington and Layton district courts. Charges include two first-degree felony counts of aggravated sexual abuse of a child.

Walker is next to appear in 2nd District Court in Farmington on Monday.
