Flooded homes in Herriman got a respite from the rain Wednesday night and Thursday morning, authorities said.

"There's been no significant problems since yesterday afternoon," said Unified Fire Authority Capt. Clinton Smith, saying that was largely because the rainfall decreased dramatically.

Three homes were flooded, two seriously, when water from nearby farm fields drained down a gravel road and into a neighborhood near 12589 S. Majestic Hill Court (6035 West) Wednesday.

The city of Herriman's public works department hauled several truckloads of dirt and set up a berm to block the water from the backyards Wednesday. Combined with the lessening rain, the berm helped protect the homes from further damage.

Authorities aren't focusing on any particular areas for flood control Thursday, Smith said, but it depends on where the worst water falls.

"Obviously Mother Nature will be the one who decides who gets the heavy amounts of rain," he said.
