Utah State coach Stew Morrill continues to be mentioned as one of the top choices in connection with the Washington State basketball job. Morrill and Portland State coach Ken Bone officially interviewed with WSU athletic director Jim Sterk on Sunday.

USU athletic director Scott Barnes was contacted by WSU on Saturday and gave the school permission to interview Morrill, who was not available for comment.

Morrill and Bone have been linked to the Cougar job following the departure of Tony Bennett, who resigned Monday to take a job at Virginia.

Morrill, 56, is 267-91 in 11 seasons at Utah State and 485-229 overall. USU has been to six NCAA tournaments and have won 23 or more games 10 consecutive seasons. The Aggies were 30-5 this season, including a first-round loss to Marquette in the NCAA Tournament.

The move would benefit Morrill financially. Bennett paid Bennett $1 million a year. Morrill reportedly has a package worth $600,000 annually.

The move also works philosophically for Morrill, who left Colorado State to coach at USU in the more remote Logan. Although WSU is part of the Pac-10, the school is located in the farming country of Pullman, Wash., located about 80 miles south of Spokane.
