Theater notes: 'Musical Account of Nephi' at BYU; 'Voices of Men' dialogue at U.

With his own hands

Brigham Young University will debut a two-hour musical, "With Mine Own Hand: The Musical Account of Nephi," during Education Week.

The show began when B. Dale Zabriskie conceived of a one-man show based on the words of Nephi, a Book of Mormon prophet. His wife later transformed the work into a stage play, which took 15 years. Composer Jay Richards wrote orchestral arrangements, Candi Alvarez and Lori Williams direct, with musical direction by Keenan Royceland.

Sending a message

The National Organization for Men Against Sexism will hold its 33rd annual conference, dedicated to the theme of "Addressing Violence in our Homes and in our Communities." The three-day conference scheduled for Aug. 21-23 will include workshops on ending men's violence against women and children and child custody issues, as well as presenting feminist counseling models.

On Aug. 21 at 6 p.m. Ben Atherton Zeman will perform his multimedia play "Voices of Men," aimed at sparking dialogue about ending male violence against women.
