Whale watching in San Diego
This is an archived article that was published on sltrib.com in 2007, and information in the article may be outdated. It is provided only for personal research purposes and may not be reprinted.

Visitors heading to the San Diego area December through March can enjoy watching the migration of California gray whales from the chilly Alaskan seas to the warm water lagoons of Baja, Calif., where they birth and rear their young. Thousands of whales come within a few miles of the San Diego coast each winter. With 70 miles of coastline, San Diego makes an ideal location for viewing this impressive parade. During the peak of the season in the middle of Janaury, as many as 200 whales per day have been counted off San Diego's shoreline. The city offers places to see the whale migration from the land, sea or air. For information on special whale watching events or about outfitters, visit the San Diego Convention and Visitors Bureau's Web site at www.sandiego.org.
