The volcano in front of The Mirage hotel in Las Vegas is undergoing a redesign that is expected to be completed late this year.
Grateful Dead drummer Mickey Hart, Indian tabla sensation Zakir Hussain and the Fountains of Bellagio design firm WET worked to create an all-new audio-visual spectacle.
The volcano first erupted in 1989.
The redesigned volcano will create an environment of sound, light, music and heat with choreographed fireshooters that will send massive fireballs more than 12 feet into the air.
Eruptions of fiery lava will flow down the mountain's fissures in a series of lively flames a few feet from spectators.
Music by Hart and Hussain will be broadcast on a state-of-the-art system featuring more than 60 sound cabinets placed around the lagoon.
