The approaching ski season means there is work to be had in the Park City area.
A job fair, designed to let would-be workers know what positions are available, will be held Thursday from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Yarrow Hotel, 1800 Park Ave., in Park City.
"Don't get just any job this winter. Get the winter job" is the theme of the annual job fair, whose outreach is likely to attract greater interest this year because unemployment rates are so much higher. Just 3.4 percent in September of 2008, the statewide unemployment rate this September was 6.2 percent. In Summit County, the unemployment rate climbed from 3.3 percent to 6.1 percent in that period.
"Working in Park City provides employees with a great lifestyle. This job fair opens the door for job seekers looking to benefit from the perks of working in the mountains," said organizer Colleen Burke, membership director at the Park City Chamber/Bureau. The Utah Department of Workforce Services is a co-sponsor.
Burke said a number of Park City businesses -- from the three major ski resorts to their partners in the hospitality, outdoor recreation retail and professional industries -- will have representatives available to discuss the part-time, seasonal and full-time jobs. She encouraged prospective employees to bring an up-to-date resumé or to fill out an application.
