A man reportedly crossing against the light was fatally hit by an SUV Wednesday night in Salt Lake City.

The incident occurred about 9 p.m. when the man stepped into the intersection near 2700 South and 700 East and was struck by the southbound vehicle.

It appeared that the woman driving the SUV had a green light, but the investigation was ongoing.

Police said there was no evidence of drugs or alcohol being factors in the incident.

The posted speed along that stretch of road is 45 mph, but there was no immediate indication that the woman, who was cooperating with investigators, had exceeded the limit.

The man, who died after being transported by ambulance to the hospital, was believe to be about 60 years old but had no identification on him, police said.

Salt Lake City police Detective Richard Chipping said it is hoped an autopsy will identify the victim.
