A dump-truck driver spotted a pickup in a wash with an injured woman inside on Saturday in Kane County, a Utah Highway Patrol spokesman said.

Trooper Lawrence Hopper said the accident apparently had occurred sometime overnight because the vehicle's engine was cold when investigators arrived in response to the dump-truck driver's 9 a.m. call. Hopper said the pickup had gone off the side of State Road 9 just west of Mount Carmel Junction.

The driver had passed debris alongside the road once and then decided to stop to look around after going by it a second time, Hopper said. The pickup was not visible from the road, he said.

The woman was flown to Dixie Regional Medical Center in serious condition, Hopper said. The crash was under investigation but impairment was not believed to be the cause.
