The Utah Highway Patrol has identified a Payson man who died in a collision on a western Utah County stretch of State Route 68 earlier this week.

UHP says seat belts did not appear to be in use in either of two vehicles involved in the crash about 5:30 a.m. Sunday, about 10 miles north of Elberta.

Troopers said that one of two southbound vehicles had attempted to pass another. The cars came in contact, sending both vehicles off the west side of the road. One, a 1993 Nissan Altima, ejected driver 30-year-old Delfino Morales, who died at the scene. A male passenger was seriously hurt, but expected to recover.

The 61-year-old Payson man driving the second car, a Toyota, also was taken to the hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

The accident remained under investigation.
