A man sustained serious head injuries when struck by a car early Friday morning in southcentral Salt Lake City.

Salt Lake City police Detective Dennis McGowan said the 59-year-old man is believe to have been hit by the southbound vehicle's side mirror near State Street and 1700 South, about 2 a.m.

The victim, who reportedly was wearing dark clothing and may have been crossing the street against the light, was reported in serious condition at the hospital.

The driver was not injured.

No citations were immediately issued, as the accident investigation was just beginning.
