A man fell to his death in Logan Canyon on Saturday while assisting a group of young women in a rock climbing activity, the Cache County Sheriff's Office reported.

William Hornberger, 46, of Garland, in Box Elder County, slipped and fell about 75 feet after climbing to the top of rock wall known as First Wall, located several miles from the mouth of Logan Canyon, according to a sheriff's news release.

Hornberger was tying anchors for the group when he fell.

He had safety gear on him, including a helmet, but he did not have himself tied into any anchors when the accident occurred, the news release said.

He was transported by ambulance to Logan Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Investigators determined Hornberger's death to be an accident. His body was turned over to the state Medical Examiner's Office for an official determination, the news release said.
