A 3-year-old boy died Saturday night after a SUV hit him in Draper.

Police did not immediately release the boy's name.

About 7:15 p.m., the boy and his parents were walking back to their vehicle after a family gathering when the boy darted into the road near 700 W. 11688 South, said Draper police Sgt. Chad Carpenter. The driver of a southbound SUV did not have enough time to stop before hitting the boy, Carpenter said.

He was flown to the hospital, where he later died.

The road was still shut down late Saturday while an accident reconstruction team investigated the crash.
