Salt Lake City police are seeking the public's help in identifying the driver involved in an alleged aggravated assault on a police officer.

On Nov. 18, the officer was out looking for burglary suspects at about 6:45 p.m., when she spotted an occupied Ford 150 pickup truck that was parked with its dome light on near 500 West and 100 South. When she got to the door, she also noticed drug paraphernalia inside the cab, city police said in a news release.

The officer spoke to the driver and opened the door, but the driver threw the truck into reverse and hit the gas.

The truck went backward at a high rate of speed with the officer pinned between the open door and the body of the vehicle, police say. When the truck turned, the officer was able to free herself.

The driver fled north on 600 West and then went west on North Temple Street, cutting through the parking lot of a Rite Aid before disappearing.

The officer took herself to a local hospital for medical attention, but had suffered only minor injuries, police spokesman Richard Chipping said.

Police are seeking anyone with information about the truck, which is described as dark in color with a chrome package and a large tool box in the bed. The truck as the numbers "4x4" on both sides near the rear of the bed.

Police say the driver is believed to be a white male in his mid or late 30s.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 801-799-3000.
