Unified Police have identified a person of interest in a Sunday hit-and-run accident in Kearns that claimed the life of a motorcyclist.

Tyler M. Rodriguez Hurt, 24, is the owner of the Jeep Cherokee that was involved in the crash, fled the scene and was later found abandoned, said Unified Police Lt. Lex Bell in a Monday news release.

Hurt has family in the Salt Lake Valley and currently lives in West Jordan, but has not returned home since the accident, Bell said.

Anyone with information regarding his whereabouts is asked to contact the Unified Police Department at 801-743-7000.

Edgar Osvaldo Frayre-Rodriguez, 19, was the victim of the Sunday afternoon accident.

At about 2:40 p.m., Frayre-Rodriguez was with two friends at a Chevron near 4710 S. 4015 West, when he reportedly turned wide to go south out of the parking lot onto 4015 West, said Bell.

Frayre-Rodriguez ended up in the northbound lane and was hit head-on crash by the Jeep, which then took off.

Early scene analysis indicates that the Jeep probably was not at fault, Bell said. But because the driver fled the scene of a fatal accident, he is now facing possibly serious criminal charges, Bell added.
