A 12-year-old West Valley City boy has succumbed to injuries suffered when struck by a utility truck on Oct. 23 in Magna.

The family of Ashton Roach posted the news on his GoFundMe page (https://www.gofundme.com/AshtonRoach):

"Ashton lost his battle today. His heart had a lot of stress last night and the doctors tried putting him deeper under so the heart wouldn't have to work so hard but it was just too much. He was with family and not in any pain."

The boy was hit as he attempted to cross a street, outside of a crosswalk, near Gearld L. Wright Elementary School, 6800 W. 3100 South. His mother witnessed the accident.

He was flown by helicopter to Primary Children's Hospital in Salt Lake City, having suffered a skull fracture and broken pelvis, leg and arm bones. Doctors put him in a medically induced coma, but he reportedly passed away Tuesday morning.

The GoFundMe site originally was set up to help with medical expenses. Now, donations also will help the family with funeral costs.
