A 12-year-old boy was in serious condition after being hit by a truck as he crossed a street on his way to school in West Valley City Friday morning.

Police and paramedics rushed to the scene of the accident, near 6800 West and 3100 South, at 7:14 a.m., public safety dispatchers confirmed.

The boy, a student at nearby Brockbank Junior High School, was taken first to Jordan Valley Medical Center, then flown by helicopter to Salt Lake City's Primary Children's Hospital, said West Valley City police spokeswoman Roxeanne Vainuku.

The boy was not in a crosswalk at the time of the accident, reportedly attempting to cross near mid-block.

No citations were issued, as the accident remained under investigation, Vainuku said.
