One man was in the hospital and another in jail after a late Saturday night stabbing in Magna.

Unified Police Detective Chuck Malm said the 34-year-old suspect had gone to visit his children his ex-girlfriend's house, near 3300 S. Patrick Drive, while she was out with friends. About 9:20 p.m., the ex-girlfriend and her entourage returned.

An altercation broke out between the father and one of the woman's friends, a 26-year-old male. The suspect allegedly grabbed a knife and stabbed the victim in the stomach, then fled the scene.

Responding to a 911 call, police found the suspect about a block away, where he was taken into custody without further incident.

The suspect was booked into the Salt Lake County jail on suspicion of aggravated assault.

The victim was transported to the hospital in serious condition, but had been upgraded to fair condition as of Sunday.
