The Utah Highway Patrol confirms that the driver of a truck from which a doghouse fell and broke up, triggering events ending in a double-fatal crash, has come forward.

The man, whose identity was not released Wednesday, told troopers he did not know the doghouse had fallen off on Interstate 15 in Weber County Sunday until another motorist alerted him.

UHP says the man contacted investigators Monday night after he learned of the accident, in which a man and his daughter died.

No citations have been issued as troopers continued to look into the incidents.

"We are investigating the accident in its totality," UHP Sgt. Todd Royce explained Wednesday. "We know who he is and how to get hold of him" if charges are filed.

The accident occurred about 5:30 p.m. Sunday as troopers were trying to clear the doghouse debris from the area were the freeway interchanges with Interstate 84, near Riverdale. A Mazda with a mother, father and two children had stopped behind a semi-trailer there when a Chevrolet sedan hit it from behind.

The collision propelled the victims' car into the back of the semi.

Declared dead at the scene was Ryan Chambers, 30, of Layton; his 4-year-old daughter, Evelynn Chambers, died at the hospital a short time later.

The mother, 28-year-old Alyssa Chambers, and her 7-year-old daughter, Kaya Chambers, remained seriously injured and hospitalized.
