A Washington City man was upgraded to serious condition on Tuesday, three days after being injured in a head-on collision on State Route 9 near Rockville.

Dixie Regional Medical Center spokeswoman Terri Draper confirmed the improvement for Timothy Chard, 51.

Chard, and a 34-year-old female passenger, also in serious condition at the St. George hospital, were both hurt when an eastbound Ford Taurus attempted to pass an RV Sunday afternoon and collided with Chard's westbound Plymouth Prowler.

The 16-year-old driver of the Taurus, along with three passengers 16, 18 and 20 years old, were treated at the scene for minor injuries.

UHP said all involved in the accident were wearing seat belts. Air bags deployed in both vehicles.
