Rescue and medical personnel were rushed to the scene of an apparent construction accident in northwest Salt Lake City late Tuesday morning.

Salt Lake City Fire Department reported that a 911 call came in at 8:49 a.m. that a worker had fallen into a hole at 1980 N. 2200 West.

SLCFD spokesman Jasen Asay said that while the excavation site was about 20 feet deep, rescuers learned the worker, a man in his 30s, was inside the hole when he fell about 5 feet.

The man was briefly unconscious, but was conscious and breathing when paramedics reached him.

He was lifted out of the hole and transported to the hospital in fair condition, complaining of leg and back pain.
