Police have identified the victim of an auto-pedestrian incident on a Salt Lake City stretch of Bangerter Highway as a 34-year-old woman.

Lynette Kristina Hill was fatally struck as she walked north, in the righthand, southbound lane of the highway, near 1700 South, at 4:23 a.m. Thursday.

The Utah Highway Patrol said the victim was wearing dark clothing in the pre-dawn darkness and the driver of the car that hit her told troopers he was unable to stop in time to avoid the collision.

The accident investigation was ongoing, with troopers trying to determine why Hill was walking in the traffic lane of a highway with vehicles traveling in excess of 50 mph.
