A Unified Police officer was injured and his cruiser heavily damaged in an early Friday morning collision with a semi-fuel tanker rig in Murray.

Public safety dispatchers confirm the crash was reported at 3:55 a.m. from the intersection of 4500 South and 500 West.

UPD said it appeared the semi made a left turn onto 500 West and into the path of the police cruiser, though investigation into the accident had just begun.

The officer was taken to Intermountain Medical Center with minor injuries; the semi driver was unhurt.

The wreckage closed down 500 West in both directions for about three hours, while 4500 South was down to one lane approaching the accident scene.

The scene was cleared and normal traffic flow resumed by 9 a.m.
