One man was dead after a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 80 in Tooele County Wednesday morning, and Utah Highway Patrol troopers confirmed the driver was later arrested for DUI.

UHP Sgt. Todd Johnson said the rollover accident occurred about 6:45 a.m. just west of the Tooele-Salt Lake county line in the eastbound lanes of I-80, near the Lakepoint exit.

The 30-year-old male driver of the car escaped unhurt after his white 2000 Acura Integra drifted off the right side of the freeway and he overcorrected, rolling the vehicle.

A male passenger lying down in the back seat, 31-year-old Andy Pham of West Valley City, unsecured by a seat belt, was killed in the crash.

Family and friends traveling in another car behind the crashed vehicle — they reportedly were returning to the Salt Lake area after a trip to Wendover — witnessed the accident.

The crash had morning commuters traffic backed up for about a mile in both directions, with one lane open eastbound and vehicles using the shoulder to crawl through the scene westbound. It took several hours to clear the wreckage and restore normal traffic flows.
