Police have identified an elderly man killed in a crash in West Valley City late Wednesday night.

Police spokeswoman Roxeanne Vainuku said 80-year-old Joseph Jones was driving south on 6550 West about 9:15 p.m. when he made a left turn at 4100 South. He turned in front of an oncoming vehicle and was struck broadside.

Paramedics were unable to revive Jones, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 23-year-old female driver of the second vehicle was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Light snow was falling at the time of the accident, but it was uncertain whether that was a major factor in the accident.
