A Utah Highway Patrol trooper was injured when her cruiser, blocking an entrance to an icy, accident-plagued State Road 201 Wednesday night, was hit by an alleged reckless driver near the Salt Lake-Tooele county line.

UHP Sgt. Todd Royce said the trooper, whose identity was not released, was pinned in her cruiser by the 10:20 p.m. crash. After rescue workers extricated her, she was treated at Intermountain Medical Center in Murray for a head laceration and released.

The cruiser, its light bar activated, was parked in the westbound lanes to divert traffic from SR-201 onto SR-202 and then Interstate 80.

Troopers say the driver of a speeding Chevy Cobalt, ignoring traffic cones, broadsided the cruiser.

That male driver, who was not injured, is likely to face reckless driving charges once the accident investigation is completed, UHP said.
