Violation of a protective order, fleeing officers and refusal to surrender sent a 34-year-old man to the hospital with multiple bites from a police dog.

Salt Lake City police were called to a residence in the 600 E. block of Ramona Avenue (1900 South) just before midnight Sunday. The officers were responding to a reported break-in at a residence from which the suspect had been banned under a protective order issued nearly a year ago.

The man ran from arriving officers and a subsequent search of the area using the dog located him hiding behind a shed a block away.

When the suspect ignored commands to give up, the dog was unleashed and pulled the man out of his hiding place.

The suspect was treated for bites at the hospital and then booked into the Salt Lake County jail on suspicion of violating a protective order and assault.
