A 12-year-old boy who had fallen into an icy swimming pool died Thursday night, Unified Police said.

Unified Police said the boy and a friend were at a playground near the Magna Recreation Center, 3270 S. 8400 West, on Tuesday afternoon when the boy went over to the partially drained outdoor pool. Moments later, his friend told police, he heard the boy calling for help.

The friend climbed over a 6-foot chain-link fence and found Jacques Bushman in the water, but was unable to pull him out. The friend ran home and returned with his father, who called 911.

Rescuers discovered Bushman floating face-down in the knee-deep water, possibly having been overcome by hypothermia at least 15 minutes before they arrived. Once pulled from the pool, paramedics began CPR and were successful in restoring breathing. Bushman was flown to Intermountain Medical Center in Murray.

A fund to help the family cover medical and funeral costs has been set up in Bushman's name at Mountain America Credit Union. Contributions will be accepted at any branch.
