A Utah Highway Patrol trooper escaped injury when his parked cruiser was struck by an out-of-control vehicle on Interstate 80 just east of Salt Lake City Wednesday morning.

UHP Sgt. Todd Royce said the trooper was outside his cruiser at the scene of an earlier accident on an icy patch of freeway in Parleys Canyon. About 6 a.m., a westbound car slid into the rear of the patrol unit.

No injuries were reported and no citations were issued, though the incident was under investigation.
