Sandy » As the U.S. Economy shows signs of recovery, recreation vehicle dealers seem optimistic as they prepare for the 45th annual Utah Sportsmen's Vacation & RV show that opens its four-day run at the South Towne Expo Center on Thursday.
"We're seeing a lot of upturn in interest," said Ardell Brown RV general manager Brian Coon. "Sales have been strong in January. The recovery of the economy is generating a lot of excitement. There are good signs across all markets for travel trailers, fifth wheelers and motor homes. We are very optimistic."
Blaine Jensen RV sales manager Jerry Vandenakker echoed those thoughts, saying that January sales at the Kaysville dealership produced a good turnout. He said the RV show is important because it is where many dealers kick off their season.
"The biggest thing right now are fifth wheel toy haulers," said Vandenakker. "They feature a small garage in the back and nice living areas. We've sold a lot of those in January. People have toys [like ATVs] but want nice amenities. These have televisions and generators."
The annual show which features motor homes, travel trailers, fifth wheels, toy haulers, pop-ups, and campers gives visitors a chance to see hundreds of recreation vehicles, talk to sales representatives and compare prices in one place.
Camping gear, generators, outdoor cooking gear and other accessories are also for sale.
Some ATVS, motorcycles and snowmobiles will also be on display.
The annual event also provides a good place to connect with area tourist councils, private campground owners and resort destinations.
There are also clinics including fly tying, Dutch oven cooking and a kids casting competition.
Show hours are 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. Thursday, noon to 10 p.m. Friday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday. Ticket prices are $9 for adults, $7 for seniors and free for children 12 and under when accompanied by a paying adult. There is a $2 discount for those buying tickets on line at www.utahrvshow.com.
