Travel reading

The Disneyland Encyclopedia

By Chris Strodder,

480-page paperback,

$19.95, Santa Monica Press

For many travelers, just seeing a place like Disneyland isn't enough. They want to go behind the scenes or learn the history of each ride, restaurant and attraction. This wonderful book does just that and should be a must-buy for the hundreds of Utahns who are hooked on all things Disney. The book lists attractions both big and small in alphabetical order like an encyclopedia, offering information on when they were built and opened and background behind each one. The book not only includes all the attractions at Disneyland but shows some unbuilt concepts including Liberty Street, Rock Candy Mountain and Chinatown while revealing the fate of long-lost Disneyland attractions such as the real rifles in the shooting gallery on Main Street, the jet-packed Rocket Man who flew above Tomorrowland, the Matterhorn's secret basketball court, the futuristic Bathroom of Tomorrow and the Hidden Mickeys hiding in plain sight. It's a great read for history buffs.
