Ogden • It's amazing what a couple of early picks can do to a struggling offense.

Weber State safety Jawian Harrison's two first-quarter interceptions helped propel the host Wildcats to a 32-14 victory over Sacramento State on Saturday night during the Wildcats' homecoming.

Weber State (2-1) held a 3-0 lead when Harrison stepped in front of a pass from Daniel Kniffin intended for receiver Dominic Coulter.

"He kind of baited the throw just the way we practiced it," Weber State coach Jay Hill said. "That was fun to see."

That gave the Wildcats possession at the Hornets' 26-yard line. Weber quarterback Jadrian Clark and receiver Cam Livingston reversed roles on the next play — with Livingston tossing to Clark for a touchdown.

Before the opening period was over, Harrison snared another Kniffin attempt and the Sacramento offense became more cautious and less effective.

"I felt like the quarterback was looking at me a lot after that," said Harrison, who grabbed another interception in the third quarter and returned it 37 yards.

Josh Kealamakia converted field goals of 37, 45 and 38 yards as Weber led 15-0 at the half. The one anomaly to the offensive woes for Sacramento State (1-2), while the game was still in doubt, came when Jordan Robinson burst through the Wildcats' defense for a 69-yard TD run at the 8:23 mark of the third.

But Weber rebounded with Kealamakia's fourth field goal of the night to make the score 18-7 with 4:45 left in the period.

"The defense had our back all night and pitched a shutout. They gave up one fluke play and our mindset was to answer right away," Clark said. "We got dissatisfied with moving the ball, but not finishing it off. We've got to do a better job of that."

The Wildcats' sealed the game with an 87-yard drive in the fourth that ate up almost seven minutes and culminated with a 26-yard run by Cory Thomson.

The Hornets and 'Cats traded touchdowns in the closing minutes — Sac State on an 8-yard pass from Kniffin to Justin Cox with 2:12 left and Weber with a 30-yard strike from Clark to Drew Batchelor with 20 seconds on the clock. —
