Ogden • Weber State University is preparing to break ground on a new 4,000 square-foot student-athlete academic center.

The new center will be built southeast of Stewart Stadium. It will be completely dedicated to the academics of the Wildcat student-athletes. It is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2015.

The building will include a 20-person computer lab, a general study area for student-athletes and individual rooms for study and tutors. It will also include the offices for academic advisers as well as an athlete lounge, a kitchenette and a balcony.

"We are committed to the academics of our student-athletes at Weber State and this new academic center will only increase that focus," said Weber State athletic director Jerry Bovee.

"This building shows the priority and focus that we put on the educational part of the student-athlete experience. It will enhance our recruiting profile in all sports and will give the student-athletes a place they can call their own.
