Ogden • Weber State's Mary Kay Amicone is the 2015 Big Sky Conference softball Coach of the Year, the league announced Tuesday.

In her second season, Amicone guided Weber to a 38-17 record, including 13-6 in the Big Sky. The 'Cats won the conference postseason tournament by outscoring Idaho State and Sacramento State, the top two seeds, by a combined score of 26-5.

Weber State will play at Louisiana-Lafayette in its first-ever NCAA Regional appearance on Friday.

Amicone owns a record of 60-42 at Weber State. She is 574-217-2 in 14 years as a collegiate head coach, including stops at Salt Lake Community College and BYU.

Amicone played two years of softball for the Wildcats before transferring to Utah in 1982. She graduated from Utah in 1983. She is married to Marc Amicone, the general manager of the Salt Lake Bees.
