The Pac-12 football season begins Friday night – in America, anyway. California gets an early start, playing Hawaii in Sydney, Australia, where it will be Saturday.  Enough international dateline discussion. On to the first pick of the 14-week regular season: California vs. Hawaii, 8 p.m. MDT, ESPN This game should have some attraction for Utah fans, who wonder what Cal quarterback Davis Webb will look like in his debut as a graduate transfer from Texas Tech. They're only the only curious ones, of course, but the Utes' interest is heightened because their second conference game is at Cal (Oct. 1).  Webb will be breaking in a bunch of new receivers, so that how that group performs also will be interesting to see. Even with the variable of having spent a week in Australia in advance of the game, the Bears should dominate. And then they get a week off before facing two challenging nonconference opponents, San Diego State and Texas.  Hawaii, meanwhile, must travel to Michigan next week, after coach Nick Rolovich's debut against Cal.  California 35, Hawaii 17.  – Kurt Kragthorpe
