Berkekley, Calif. • Utah fell to California 9-2 here Sunday night, but the Utes maintain a half-game lead over Washington in the race for the Pac-12 regular season title.

Utah (22-26, 16-10) was led at the plate by Zack Moeller and Kellen Marruffo, who both went 2-for-4 on the night. Dallas Carroll and Josh Rose each drove in runs.

Utah took a quick 1-0 lead after DaShawn Keirsey, Jr. doubled to lead off the game. He moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on a sacrifice fly from Carroll. Cal quickly came back in the bottom of the inning to tie the game 1-1 after two singles and two walks, with a bases-loaded walk sending in a run to tie the game.

California pulled ahead to a 4-1 lead with a three-run second inning after three hits and a walk.

The Utes got a run back in the third. Marruffo hit a one-out double and scored on a well-placed infield single from Rose. However, Cal increased its lead to 6-2 in the bottom of the inning with two runs following a pair of doubles and a hit batter.

The Golden Bears continued to pull ahead in the sixth with a two-run home run and added a solo homer in the eighth inning.

Dalton Carroll threw five innings in the loss, allowing six runs (five earned) on eight hits with four walks and two strikeouts. He fell to 5-7 on the year. Josh Tedeschi pitched in the sixth inning while Nolan Stouder threw 2 2/3 innings, allowing one run on three hits with two strikeouts and a walk.

The Utes and Golden Bears play game three on Monday at 8 p.m. MDT to wrap up the three-game series.
