A Montana newspaper reported Monday that Utah deputy athletic Director Kyle Brennan has been named Montana State's new athletic director.

Brennan is expected to be introduced at a Monday afternoon press conference, according to the Bozeman Chronicle.

Hired in 2008 as an associate athletic director over compliance, Brennan quickly gained additional responsibilities in the department, overseeing Utah's multi-million construction of football and men's basketball facilities, as well as new tennis courts. He also presided over event management, human resources and equipment among other duties for the athletic department.

Named Utah's first deputy athletic director in 2014, he was widely seen as a possible heir apparent to AD Chris Hill, who has served in his position since 1987.

The Brennan family is intimately interwoven throughout the department. Beth Brennan, married to Kyle, is the coordinator of football academics. The Brennans' three sons are also regular attendees at Utah sporting events and practices. Mac Brennan was profiled by Sports Illustrated as an inspiration to Utah's teams after being diagnosed with, and subsequently successfully undergoing treatment for, cancer during 2014.

Brennan replaces Peter Fields, who was Montana State's athletic director since 2002.
