Reno, Nev. • Marcus Marshall scored 22 points and had five 3-pointers and D.J. Fenner added 18 points and Nevada held off Utah State in the second half for a 77-66 win Saturday night.

Jordan Caroline had 15 points and Cameron Oliver scored 14 for Nevada, which remains in a three-way tie for first in the Mountain West Conference with Boise State and Colorado State. Caroline and Oliver hauled in 10 rebounds apiece to help the Wolf Pack control the boards 45-29.

Nevada (21-6, 10-4) broke away in the second half with a 9-2 burst fueled by three of Marshall's 3-pointers to go up 55-42 with 16:07 to play, and later stretched the margin to 17 with a 5-0 spurt.

Utah State trimmed the gap to single digits with an 11-2 run and trailed 72-64 with a minute left but couldn't get closer.

"They did to us what we did to them in Logan. They manhandled us on the boards. We haven't been manhandled like that on the boards since the BYU game. We were playing big and we were playing small," said Utah State head coach Tim Duryea. "'I told our guys in the locker room 'I don't care if we have five guards on the floor, it is no excuse, we have to be more physical than that.' We lose the lead on rebounding and a couple of key turnovers that led to transition baskets."

Jalen Moore led Utah State (11-15, 5-10) with 19 points. In the game, Moore scored his 1,546th career point and moved to No. 10 on the all-time scoring list, passing Reid Newey (1984, 87-89) at No. 11 with 1,536 career points and Eric Franson (1991, 94-96) at No. 10 with 1,545 career points.

Norbert Janicek had 16 for the Aggies, a career-high. Freshman guard Sam Merrill led the Aggies with five assists, marking the fourth time this season recording five or more assists in a game.

Utah State's road trip continues on Wednesday at San Jose State at 8 p.m. before its home finale on Saturday against Air Force at 7 p.m. The regular season finishes March 1 at UNLV.

Saturday's loss kept the Aggies one game behind Wyoming for the No. 8 seed in the conference tournament, which starts March 8 in Las Vegas. —
