Catching up with some recent Utah State news:

• Gymnastics coach Nadalie Walsh recently announced the signing of Kiera Miller, who trained at the Oshkosh (Wis.) Gymnastics & Cheer Center under Phyllis and Dale Hardt and Taylor and Josh Ames. The all-arounder earned the club's 2015 Gymnast of the Year award. She recovered from an Achilles tendon injury last season in time to finish second on the bars and third on the beam in the Wisconsin state championships.

• Senior center Austin Stephens has been named to the 2016 Dave Rimington Trophy watch list. The Rimington Trophy is presented annually to the outstanding center in Division I-A college football. As a junior, Stephens started all 13 games and had an overall performance grade of 78 percent, which included five games over 80 percent. His best game was against Wyoming, when he graded out at 86 percent and recorded four knockdowns.

• Senior tight end Wyatt Houston has been named to the 2016 John Mackey Award watch list. The John Mackey Award is given annually to the outstanding tight end in college football. Houston, a 6-foot-4, 255-pounder from Horizon Christian High School in Tualatin, Ore., played in all 13 games last season. He made nine starts and finished the year with 25 receptions for 307 yards and three touchdowns.

• Kelsie Kruger, who spent last season as director of basketball operations at South Dakota State, has been named a women's assistant coach. "We are excited to add Kelsie to our staff," Utah State head coach Jerry Finkbeiner said. "She was an outstanding Division II player who knows the game and comes from a basketball family." A native of Marshall, Minn., Kruger has previously coached at Cal State-East Bay, Adams State and Iowa Lakes Community College. She attended Adams State.
