Logan • Utah State signed Snow College forward Norbert Janicek, coach Tim Duryea announced Wednesday.

A native of Slovakia, Janicek made the All-Scenic West Conference first team last season, when he averaged 15.6 points, 6.2 rebounds and shot 63.8 percent from the field.

Janicek, who scored a season-high 30 points against Treasure Valley Community College, will have three years of eligibility remaining.

"Norby gives us an inside scoring presence," Duryea said. "He is a very skilled scorer in the post and can use either hand and can go over either shoulder. He also has the ability to step out and make shots. … We know that his best basketball is ahead of him. Hopefully, we can develop him into a top-notch Mountain West Conference center."

Adding Janicek means Utah State has five players in its 2016-17 recruiting class. The others are Wasatch Academy guard Koby McEwen (Mount Pleasant), forward Klay Stall (Chandler, Ariz.), wing Daron Henson (Los Angeles) and returning LDS Church missionary Sam Merrill (Bountiful).
