Funeral services for former Utah State star and long-time team physician John Worley will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the River Heights Stakes Center.

Worley died last week. He was 90.

In the late 1940s, Worley competed in football and track at Utah State. He is best known for scoring the winning touchdown against Utah on Thanksgiving Day in 1946. The victory clinched a conference championship for the Aggies.

Worley later spent 42 years as Utah State's team physician. He retired in 1998.

"Doctor Worley dedicated his life to Utah State athletics, and there are countless Aggies who benefited from his knowledge and devotion," said USU athletic director John Hartwell. "On behalf of Utah State University, we are saddened by his loss and our thoughts and prayers go out to his family."

John Clyde Worley Jr. was born on Dec. 20, 1925 in Salt Lake City. He was the son of Clyde and Geneva Worley. He was raised in Logan and graduated from Logan High in 1943.

After attending Utah State briefly, Worley joined the U.S. Navy and served in World War II. When he returned to Utah State, he excelled in athletics. He married Jaqueline Barber on June 6, 1947 in Logan. They were married for 63 years and had five children.

Worley attended Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill. and earned his medical degree in 1952. He completed his internship and residency in Ogden and Salt Lake before returning to Logan.
