Logan • Utah State senior quarterback Chuckie Keeton still needs one touchdown pass to become the school's all-time leader.

After entering the Aggies' 31-27 win over Nevada when starter Kent Myers was injured in the second quarter, Keeton had an opportunity to move ahead of Jose Fuentes, who threw for 60 touchdowns during his career (2000-02).

Utah State moved to the Nevada 3-yard line late in the first quarter and Keeton bought himself some time by scrambling away from the pass rush on third down.

Brandon Swindall was one of two Aggie receivers who were open in the end zone, but Keeton's pass sailed high and was incomplete.

On the next play, kicker Brock Warren missed a 20-yard field goal.

Keeton played the rest of the game, but Utah State started rushing the ball effectively enough that he didn't have to throw often in the red zone.

Since bursting onto the scene as a true freshman in 2011, Keeton has struggled with injuries.

The game against Nevada was his fifth this year and 14th over the past seasons. He had played only three snaps since spraining his knee at Washington on Sept 19.

Baffling Pack

One of the most inexplicable results in the Mountain West Conference this season involved Nevada.

On Oct. 17 in Laramie, Wyoming, quarterback Cameron Coffman threw three touchdown passes and Brian Hill rushed for 188 yards to lead Wyoming past the Wolf Pack, 28-21.

After that game, the Cowboys lost four straight games to Boise State (34-14), Utah State (58-27), Colorado State (26-7) and San Diego State (38-3). The win over Nevada is Wyoming's only one in its past 14 games.

"They made more plays than we did and frankly they played tougher than we did," Wolf Pack coach Brian Polian said at the time. "There's no doubt in my mind Wyoming won both lines of scrimmage in both phases of the game."

Nevada, however, used the loss to jump-start its season.

The Wolf Pack entered their game against Utah State on a three-game winning streak. They defeated Hawaii (30-20), Fresno State (30-16) and San Jose State (37-34 in overtime) to become bowl-eligible for the 10th time in the last 11 seasons.
