Utah State's best football player ever was recognized as one of the greatest in history on Thursday, as Merlin Olsen was selected to the Football Writers Association of America's 75th Anniversary All-America Team.

A two-time All-American for the Aggies, Olsen was selected to the second team, joining former BYU standout Gordon Hudson as the only players from Utah to make the team.

Olsen was a three-year letterman on both the offensive and defensive lines for the Aggies from 1959-61. As a senior, he was named the Outland Trophy winner, an award that goes to the nation's outstanding interior defensive lineman.

He went on to play 15 seasons in the NFL, where he was named to 14 consecutive Pro Bowls and earned All-Pro honors nine times during his career.
