Logan * Utah State signed Miami Dade point guard Shane Rector to a letter of intent, new head coach Tim Duryea announced Friday.

Rector averaged 17.4 points, 5.5 assists and 4.1 rebounds last season, when he helped Miami Dade finish 21-11. He earned all-state honors from the Florida Community College Activities Association.

Rector, a three-star recruit coming out of South Kent (Conn.) High School, spent his freshman season at Missouri. He averaged only 4.6 minutes in 23 games before transferring to Miami Dade.

"Shane is a dynamic, athletic point guard who has shown a knack for being able to score in a variety of ways," Duryea said. "He is also strong at penetrating and making plays for his teammates."

Rector is the third new signee for Utah State. He joins guard Dusan Majstorovic (Lee Academy Prep) and Brock Miller (Brighton). Miller is expected to join the Aggies for the 2017-18 season, following the completion of an LDS Church mission.

Also Friday, Duryea announced sophomore guard JoJo McGlaston requested and was granted a release from the program and will not be returning. He averaged 5.3 points and three rebounds in 21 minutes a game last season.
