A suspended Utah State University football player has been charged with distributing drugs and sexual battery.

Gregory Hayden Weichers, who was suspended in early November for violating team rules, was charged Tuesday in 1st District Court. Weichers, 20, faces one count of distributing a controlled substance, a third-degree felony, and sexual battery, a class-A misdemeanor.

On Oct. 22, Logan police arrived at a local hotel to find a woman who claimed to have been drugged and sexually assaulted, according to a police news release.

"The victim admitted to being in Logan to perform escort services," but the client gave her a false name, the release reads. Police later identified Weichers as the suspect, and that he allegedly arranged to meet her at the hotel that afternoon. Weichers admitted to the meeting and later pleaded guilty to soliciting a prostitute.

But Logan police uncovered that later that evening on the same day, Weichers allegedly returned with marijuana and gave some to the victim, and sexually assaulted her.

Weichars does not have a court date scheduled.

The drug charge carries a potential prison sentence of up to five years. The sexual battery charge is punishable by up to one year in jail.
