Utah State's women's basketball team begins its efforts in the Mountain West Conference tournament on Monday against 8th-seeded San Jose State when the tournament opens at the Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas.

The 9th-seeded Aggies (8-22, 5-13) split two regular season matchups with the Spartans (13-16, 7-11), losing 62-58 in December before taking a 85-80 win in February in Logan.

Elise Nelson had a career-best 13 points and tied her career high with 13 rebounds in that win, snapping a five-game losing streak for Utah State.

Monday's game tips off at 1 p.m. and will be streamed on the Aggie Digital Network.

The Aggies closed out the season with a 76-58 loss to Colorado State on Friday despite a solid effort from Funda Nakkasoglu, who recorded her 24th double-digit game for the Aggies.

Nakkasoglu leads Utah State in scoring with 16.7 points per game, while junior Makenlee Williams is averaging 14.4 points.

Since beating the Spartans on Feb. 18, the Aggies closed out the season 1-4, the lone win an 84-50 blowout over Air Force.

Last season the Aggies were the eighth seed in the tournament. They defeated New Mexico 69-66 before losing to top-seeded Colorado State 72-67.
