Landon Donovan ensured one of his old rivals would be well-represented on his team.

Once again serving as coach, the former Major League Soccer and U.S. men's national team star chose four Real Salt Lake players for the upcoming Chipotle MLS Homegrown Game in which 20 homegrown MLS talents will face the Mexican U-20 national team on July 27 at Avaya Stadium in San Jose, Calif.

RSL academy alumni Justen Glad, Jordan Allen, Phanuel Kavita and Danilo Acosta were chosen by Donovan Tuesday to face the Mexico U-20s as part of the 2016 MLS All-Star Game festivities. Glad, 19, became a starting-lineup regular for RSL in 2016, making 13 starts on the RSL back line. The Homegrown player signed in April 2014 also has a goal and an assist so far this year.

Allen was signed as a Homegrown player in Dec. 2013. The 21-year-old has served as RSL's primary option off the the bench this season. Allen's made seven starts and 12 appearances overall. The Rochester, N.Y., native has three goals and assist in 2016.

Kavita, a product of Highland High in Salt Lake City, signed with RSL as a Homegrown in Jan. 2015. The 23-year-old center back made two starts his rookie year with the club in 2015, but has mainly been featured with Real Monarchs this season. Kavita has 12 starts with RSL's USL affiliate. The Clemson graduate made his 2016 debut in RSL's 2-0 loss at FC Dallas on June 25.

Acosta is the youngest of the RSL quad called by Donovan. The 18-year-old who grew up in Sandy was signed as a Homegrown player last December. Projected long-term as a defensive midfielder, Acosta has yet to make his first-team debut. He's made nine starts with the Monarchs and was most recently featured with the U.S. U-20s in a tournament in Southern California.

Welshman undergoes hip surgery • Rookie forward Emery Welshman underwent successful surgery last Saturday at Massachusetts General Hospital to remove a right hip osteochondroma, an outgrowth of a growth plate made up of bone and cartilage.

It's the first of two surgeries for the former Monarchs forward signed this offseason. Hip injuries have hampered Welshman's first year with RSL. In six weeks, he's expected to undergo a secondary surgery in Vail, Colo., to repair a small labral tear and femoral acetabular impingement.

The 24-year-old had six goals a year ago with the Monarchs, but only made three appearances in 2016 while on loan from RSL.

"Knowing this is a two-step process for Emery, we are extremely happy that the first surgery was considered a success and we move on to supporting him as he moves into the next step in his recovery," RSL general manager Craig Waibel said in a club release.
